Savvy Shields got our week off to a bright start with a tough hard fought win on Monday at Hamilton in the Bet365 BM64 Handicap over 1100m
Backing up a huge effort at Horsham 3 weeks earlier, Savvy Shields was stepping up slightly in class into the Open age BM64 race.
Ridden by Dean Holland from the outside barrier she was urge on from the jump, and settled into a nice rhythm outside the leader for the majority of the race. Approaching the turn, Savvy looked to have the leader covered, and ranged up to challenge, only to find she was suddenly attacked on her inside and outside once they straightened and all the way down the straight. But she dug deep and fought off both challenges to stick her head out and win in a driving 3 way finish.
She is thriving deep into her prep, her recent form has been very strong, and this rated her best win to date.
She now boasts 3 wins from 10 starts, a tidy little record for a filly that will continue to improve with age.
