Russian Romeo broke his maiden tag in the Happy Australia Day maiden plate at Goulburn on Friday.
He was always travelling in the box seat during the run, but it took some vigrous riding from Lee Magorrian to get him to knuckle down and drive to the line and win. He always looked to be the horse to beat in the run, but it took the full length of the long Goulburn straight to wear down the leaders and get his neck in front.
Russian Romeo the son of Smart Missile seems to be looking for more distance in his races, and gives us the impression another step up to 1600m will be to his liking. He has a big loping action, he covers good ground, and he is enjoying the extra distance and big spacious tracks.
Russian Romeo will continue to campaign in Sydney for now, picking up some lucrative BOBS bonuses along the way, with his new found winning confidence!
