COLUMBIA SHINES

Columbia won the Woodbine Salutes Gwen & Bill Steinmeyer Maiden Handicap over 1200m at Warracknabeal today in impressive fashion, and got the 2017/2018 Racing Season off to a flying start for the Dream Team!

Columbia now a 3yo gelding by Denman out of the Flying Spur mare Mulu Miss was purchase from the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale.

He raced 3 times as a 2yo colt, without winning, and was gelded during the 2yo Autumn to prepare for a Spring campaign.

He was brought along slowly by Ciaron Maher, and after 2 promising trials, winning his recent trial, he was sent out for a soft kill at Warracknabeal.

From the start Linda Meech settled Columbia near last, and watched as the race unfolded in front of her, on a tight circuit, Linda decided to wait patiently on the fence at the back of the field and wait for the gaps to open in front of her. At the 400m mark, it looked a little like she would be held up behind horses, but as they straightened up and fanned, the run up the inside presented, and Columbia quickly accerelated and put the race beyond doubt and ran away of the last 100m to win convincingly.

It ended up a peach from Meech!

Columbia now has more options available to him in the early part of the Spring, before it really starts to heat up!
