Charles strikes back!

Charles in Charge defied all challenges to race away with the BM72 1400m Race 7 at Morphettville Parks yesterday.

Ridden by Matthew Neilson, Charles pushed up to hold the fence, under pressure froma couple of horses on his outside. But without pushing him to hard, Neilson kept Charles under a nice gallop to keep the horses from crossing him. At the 400m, pressure came on him 3 wide, but Charles was still working through his gears, and the last 100m saw him stride away from the pack and win comfortably.

The winning margin was a comfortable 1.3 lengths for Charles in Charge.

After a frustrating Spring campaign, Charles returned for s Summer campaign in November.

Anthony Freedman stood behind the belief that the step up to 1400m would allow Charles to roll forward to the lead under an even tempo.

Under this steady crusing speed, Charles was allowed to step through his gears, and then produced his customary dash over the last 100m.

Over shorter distances Charles, has been forced to race out of his comfort zone, and yesterday race was a worthwhile experiment to understand what scope he has fpr the future.

We look forward to his next experiment!
