Little Burgundy Lass won on debut today in the William Hill Open 2yp Plate over 1000m on the Geelong Synthetic track!

Burgundy Lass is by multiple Group 1 winning stallion Nicconi, out of a Red Ransom mare Lambrays that is a full sister to a stakles winner Cinque.

Ridden a treat by Dwayne Dunn, Burgundy Lass jumped with the leaders from barrier 1, and drove up underneath a couple of challengers to hold the lead.

Under pressure throughout, and challenged rounding the turn into the straight, she was held onto by Dunn before he let her head go at the 200m mark, she kicked a length clear and surged to the line to hold on by a narrow margin but enough to give her a debut win!

Burgundy Lass is a fantastic story, having been purchased for only $2,000 at last years Magic Millions National Yearling Sale in June 2014.

Although valued by Bluegrass Bloodstock at $20,000 before the sale, Burgundy Lass slipped through the cracks and was knocked down to Dream Thoroughbreds after only 1 bid.

It goes to show that price is not an indication of ability, and the pedigree behind a yearling is vitality important.

There is a big bunch of owners behind Burgundy Lass, and with her big heart, there looks to be lots of fun ahead!
